Welcome Back Eagles!

We back, we back, we baaaack! 19-20 school year, what's up!?!

So excited to be back in my community serving for the fourth year at Adams City High. My rosters have shaped up over the past month and I am proud and excited to say that I have a great batch of kids ready to tackle the content put before them in here over the next 10 months. With each student I had an individual meeting to ensure that they were in the right place considering attendance and grades from last year paired with their attitude and willingness to Mentor or be Mentored. So here we are with 96 students officially accepted into the program this year.

I am proud to have built a reputation in the school in such a way that students are now coming to me at the beginning in the year eagerly wanting to join the program and students who are changing their behavior in order to prove they belong here. They commit to more than just participating but it is a commitment to GPA, to attendance, and it is commitment to being comfortable with getting uncomfortable to welcome personal growth. I'm excited to see where we are a few months from now! I even have students already asking to apply for mentor leader in each class! The program is finally at the state that it is intended to be at to make full impact and I couldn't be more happy about that, a lot of time and work went into this on behalf of so many people and their support- even the readers of this blog. So, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!

The content that has been coloring our past month has been around 3 core themes:

Community, Emotional Intelligence, and Identity

Building community with group posters to explore the meaning of Identity and why it is important in YESS and life in general.

This was a first week activity where students were letting me know about themselves so that I am better able to understand, and therefore, serve them individually this year.

Here students got into group and explored Identity and three components that prompted them to think critically about the importance of developing it as young people. They have taken this info and have begun their Identity Tattoo designs- they are presenting next week! Pics to come.

Here was a continued theme of Community where they got to know more about each other through a game of personality Bingo.

We are in the throws of intro community building activities to invite bonding into our new space (shout out to our new room!) which will welcome a strong foundation for our lessons. I'm excited to dive into more concrete concepts and, mostly, to match them with their mentees/mentors soon! all of this are in the weeks to come so stay tuned.

Thanks for checking in with us in room F103! OH, and we are now on Instagram! That's right, we on the gram- give us a follow @yess_for_success

Until next time,
Ms. C
