Belief Research and THE BOMB CYCLONE

In 5..4..3..2.. And were back at it with the daily vlogs its me icarly and ive missed you guys. Quick rant here. we just had a 5 day break from school because OF SNOW. The first time snow has done something good for us, but now we got a lot of homework. ): i wish i could be one of the readers reading this right now.

Last week we read articles about limiting and empowering Beliefs. Each of us would interact with each article try to comprehend, put it in our own words, and reflect on it. We figured out the most important thing of each article, and why it was important for us. We were paired with groups and presented our article with a PSA poster. We determined the importance of each concept and this week we get to put it into art on a poster and present it to our stans.

.

Intro to Belief Systems and Scholarships

Last week was a test for all of us mentor leaders as it was the first time for us to introduce a new lesson all on our own without Castro's co teaching help. It went really well for all of us! We have been meeting twice a week now so we can plan for our lessons and practice teaching to eachother. This week we moved on from apple pie to talk about belief systems and the true power of words. We talked about how belief systems influence our daily lifes and decsions too. We did a circle talk discussing what core belief systems we all have and even just tried to talk about guessing wha tthat is. After we defined it and watched a motivational video we did a really fun activity, it was the highlight of the week. We did musical chairs with notecards on each chair and when someone sat down they had to pick up the card that had a word, for example the word FAMILY or MONEY and then on the handout I would give them time to write what the belief means to them, how it relates to the importance in their lives. We did this until we got a winner in each class and we got prizes for them like a cup of lime hot cheetos for my class. We discussed negativity bias also, talking about how we all have the choice to look at situations through a certain negative or positive perspective. This came back to the Today I Choose lesson that we did a long time ago. We all chose things that we want for ourselves just this week, so goals. This makes me think of how stressed the seniors were to complete institutional scholarships by the deadline and also the YESS scholarship which ms Castro made every senior apply so Monday and Friday seniors were seperated from everyone else doing tutoring so that she could help answer any questions for them and give them peace and quiet to focus on submitting scholarships because we are all going to get this bread.

stay tuned for next week sisters!

Here are some musical chairs craziness for you

Musical chairs! Pause music! Find a seat! Reflection time! Repeat!

The orange fedora is a blessing to our class

Honestly this pic really says it all

Gooddluck to shalayah who will be starting at Lester Arnold this week to finish her credits so she can graduate on time. We will miss her every day at lunch and we will miss having to tell her to go to class when she tries to sneak into our classroom with a bathroom pass from another class. We will also miss watching her eat an entire cake from the box and talking about how she can't breath after climbing 3 stairs. We love you dont forget your roots!!!!!!!!!!!

Relationships & Apple Pie

Last week we learned about doing your part in relationships through the metaphor of apple pie.

We taught about the different kinds of relationships- family, friends, romantic, co-workers, things like that. We discovered who we are in these relationships by asking ourselves to reflect on a quote for the question of the day and also filling out a survey that told us whether we were A, B, or C type of pie eater. A was a whole pie eater or someone who does a lot in the relationship and can be taken advantage of easily or burns out and maybe can be controlling, B was a balanced pie eater which means you give and take in a healthy way, C was a pie crumb eater so someone who doesn't do a lot in relationships and can play the victim often and blame others and even be lazy. We also shared 3 relationships in our life where we are all 3 of these types, it is pretty impossible to be balanced all across the board but we discussed what it takes to have a healthy half pie eaten relationship with everyone important to us in our lifes. What are the ingredients for a healthy relationship with positive communication? We expored this question more with skits where we were randomly given one type of relationship and with our groups had to demonstrate this relationship and come to a consequence for each type. Then the whole class had to guess which type of pie eater this scenario was trying to show. It was so fun, funny, and educational!!! We loved the skits the best.

AND WE GOT REAL APPLE PIE!!!! THANKS EVELYN!!!!
