Intro to Belief Systems and Scholarships

Last week was a test for all of us mentor leaders as it was the first time for us to introduce a new lesson all on our own without Castro's co teaching help. It went really well for all of us! We have been meeting twice a week now so we can plan for our lessons and practice teaching to eachother. This week we moved on from apple pie to talk about belief systems and the true power of words. We talked about how belief systems influence our daily lifes and decsions too. We did a circle talk discussing what core belief systems we all have and even just tried to talk about guessing wha tthat is. After we defined it and watched a motivational video we did a really fun activity, it was the highlight of the week. We did musical chairs with notecards on each chair and when someone sat down they had to pick up the card that had a word, for example the word FAMILY or MONEY and then on the handout I would give them time to write what the belief means to them, how it relates to the importance in their lives. We did this until we got a winner in each class and we got prizes for them like a cup of lime hot cheetos for my class. We discussed negativity bias also, talking about how we all have the choice to look at situations through a certain negative or positive perspective. This came back to the Today I Choose lesson that we did a long time ago. We all chose things that we want for ourselves just this week, so goals. This makes me think of how stressed the seniors were to complete institutional scholarships by the deadline and also the YESS scholarship which ms Castro made every senior apply so Monday and Friday seniors were seperated from everyone else doing tutoring so that she could help answer any questions for them and give them peace and quiet to focus on submitting scholarships because we are all going to get this bread.

stay tuned for next week sisters!

Here are some musical chairs craziness for you

Musical chairs! Pause music! Find a seat! Reflection time! Repeat!

The orange fedora is a blessing to our class

Honestly this pic really says it all

Gooddluck to shalayah who will be starting at Lester Arnold this week to finish her credits so she can graduate on time. We will miss her every day at lunch and we will miss having to tell her to go to class when she tries to sneak into our classroom with a bathroom pass from another class. We will also miss watching her eat an entire cake from the box and talking about how she can't breath after climbing 3 stairs. We love you dont forget your roots!!!!!!!!!!!
