YESS Begins its First Year at ACHS

YESS began its first year at Adams City High School in Commerce City on August 8th! We are starting the year off with new mentors and mentees and a lot of team building. We have spent time talking about identity, our communities, our values and our goals. We have also been playing plenty of games and getting to know each other. The students put together several projects including posters with their shared agreements around expectations for their classroom community. They have also made their own personal Coat of Arms to represent their values and identity. We are still working to fill all of our mentor spots, but the mentees are patiently waiting their arrival. One of the major highlights from the first two weeks of school has been making marshmallow towers. Students broke into teams of three and were given 20 minutes to make a tower out of differing sized marshmallows and spaghetti noodles. Students used various creative strategies in order to create these towers, some strategies working better than others.
